As a new owner of a BX23, I have had some interesting calls between my homeowners insurance carrier in regards to the tractor. At first they said the tractor was not covered under the policy, but after my persistant prodding, the agent called the regional office and they asaid it was covered for fire, theft and liability but suggested that I bump up my personal property limit by the value of the tractor. The liability only covers the tractor on my own property. If I decide to help an neigbor, I am on my own and I had better get a liability release from the owner. This only added $30 a year to my current policy. Just curious as to how others on the forum have handled the insurance issue which unfortueately is a fact of life.

People have to ask their insurance companies what exactly is and is not covered. Most companies will cover tractors for fire, theft, and acts of God. I doubt most companies will cover them for operator caused events, like rolling or falling a tree on it or anything when it happens away from the owners property. If the tractor is being financed most companies require coverage for operator damage, but they seem not to scrutinize the coverage until after an accident. I bought Sentry insurance through JD for cheap money, something like $120 for three years. This basically covers the tractor and implements for any damage, on or off the property. Liability falls to my homeowners policy (and liability umbrella). I'm not sure yet what I'll do after the finance period ends since my company, Amica, doesn't offer any sort of operator damage coverage. ....

I had Farmers and Mechanics and they first told me it wasn't covered because it was over 30 HP, then they said it was, then they canceled my insurance because we had a trampoline and pool. I was a little concerned at the reasoning for canceling me as we had never filed a claim and always paid on time. We finally went with Erie and actually saved a lot of money. He wrote a separate $18,000 policy for my tractor that basically covers everything and it only runs $53 a year. Just make sure you get a policy for replacement value and not the value of the tractor. ....

I went to my Farm Bureau agent and had him write an artisan contractors policy for liabilty and property to cover the tractor and attachments. It runs me $650 per year. This includes $1mil. liabilty and $20K in property. This provides me coverage no matter whose property I'm working on. I was concerned about coverage when transporting the tractor even if to do work on my own property. ....
